Getting Started

Joining broomball is quite simple. You can sign up an entire team or we can help place you on an existing team.

Here is a list of things you'll want/need to get started.

Bare Minimum Equipment

  • Yourself!
  • Helmet
  • Stick
  • Gloves - these can be anything from winter gloves to hockey gloves.

Things we provide
though you can definitely use your own

  • Broomball Sticks
  • Broomball Helmets

Optional (but recommended)

  • Broomball Shoes - yes, they actually make broomball shoes, and yes, they actually work!
  • Shin Guards and Knee Pads
  • Elbow pads - cause that ice is slippery!

Things each team needs

  • An official broomball
  • Matching jerseys/shirts - we're not too strict about this, but at least try to wear the same color.

Where to find equipment
Hockey equipment can be used for nearly everything broomball related. So be sure to check out Play-it-again, Slapshot, Scheels, MC Sports, Dunham's or any other hockey outfitter.

Official broomball equipment can be found at www.broomball.com

How in shape you need to be
Doesn't matter! Sure there is running involved (especially in full ice). But broomball is a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone. Most teams in our league have plenty of players, so as soon as you get worn out, just call for a sub. Otherwise you could always give defense/goalie a try!
